REEL STREET ON TUMBLR

April 28, 2013

I've finally joined Tumblr. About 3 years ago a friend told me I should join based on how cool it was, a mere 22 months later I've signed up. I remember feeling hesitant about joining Twitter, then a few days in I was hooked. i now manage 3 Twitter accounts. So we'll see what happens with Tumblr, I'll probably post some less 'professional' posts on there, but I'm sure it will be fun!

ART ATTACK HOME - OFFICE PROJECT

March 16, 2013

I've spent the last five months being involved in an extensive project with groups from the Parkwood Centre for Young People in Keighley and Manningham, Bradford, looking at tackling gangs and dangerous weapons. The project has been funded by the Home Office in partnership with Kala Sangam to carry out workshops to try and teach young people about the dangers of being part of a gang, and how best to avoid younger children growing up to believe that gangs are the way forward.

My main involvement was to make a short documentary about the lives of several young people and capture their thoughts about the issue of gangs and violence, and I'm pleased to say I got to meet lots of interesting, clever young people. No matter what people might say about the youth of today, I've found that if you take the time to get to know young people, have a game of football or pool, have a conversation and not just be present for the sake of your project's requirements, you will get so much more out of your working experience. Due to the sensitive nature of the film, I'm not sure how public it will become, but stay tuned as I certainly hope I'll be able to show it to you soon.

COMMUNITY PROFILE - BIG LOCAL

January 10, 2013

I spend a lot of my time working with community based organisations and I was commissioned by Bradford Community Voluntary Services to produce a film about a Big Local Lottery Bid to improve a particular postcode in the city. Here is an extended version of the video which I've listed on my Films page. If you are a community organisation and would be interested in making a film about the issues that affect you, please feel free to get in touch.

TOGETHER - FILM PREMIERE

July 16th 2012

It's been a busy couple of weeks in the world of Reel Street Films, with school workshops, film projects for organisations and future planning all on the go. The very personal highlight however is the forthcoming first world 'mini' premiere of TOGETHER, the feature length film I wrote, produced and directed!  It's been a long time coming, and if you visit the website you'll find a couple of video blogs dating back to 2010.  When I thought producing a film would go perfectly according to plan...lets just say it's been a massive learning curve!

Thankfully, Thursday 19th July marks the first showing to a select audience of family, friends, cast, crew and their family and friends.  After that the film will be sent to various film festivals, with the hope that one day you'll be able to purchase it on DVD.  Fingers crossed that it all goes well.

THE HOTTEST SUMMER SINCE RECORDS BEGAN!

July 9, 2012

Well its been the wettest July I've ever seen, and even though I really want to be walking through the streets in shorts with an ice cream, as opposed to a suicidal umbrella, I'm optimistic about the rest of the year!  I believe we'll still have a hot summer and talk about how it's the hottest day since records began.   I just need to keep the faith.

I've just returned from Northern Ireland where I was fortunate enough to capture the wedding of Liam and Natalie, and I'm currently working on their wedding film.  Here is a snapshot of what their wedding day looked like.

In other news, there are other wedding films booked in the diary, as well as several film workshops with young people.  Due to the sensitive nature of the groups I work with, more often than not I cannot show you the work the young people produce, but I hope to be able to show you some new films over the summer!

THINGS ARE CHANGING!

June 6, 2012

If you visited the website a few weeks ago, or a months ago, you'll notice that things have changed a little.  Just to make it very clear what Reel Street offers, I've created some additional pages to clarify our services.   You will now find a Showreel page, which means if you're an actor, musician, band or performer in some sort of capacity, we can create a video reel of you in action, ideal to give to casting agents and clients.

We are also working on a Weddings page, which will be available to view in a few weeks.   The best thing to do is stay tuned!
TOUCHING DISTANCE

June 24, 2011

The finish line for TOGETHER is so close I can see it! Actually, its just there! Look, a few more feet! Just reach out and... enough with the metaphors, Together is a matter of hours away from completion! The main scenes are all recorded and in the can, there is one final scene which shall be done next week and then a few minor pick ups which will also take a couple of hours...but then its really over!

So once its finished, I'll be celebrating with Champagne and putting my feet up for all of a few hours, before cracking on with the edit! I feel a renewed sense of excitement, just as I did when I first pressed record back in September 2010! As previous posts will show, I initially thought we would finish filming in December 2010, then Jan 11, then April 11...but it didn't happen like that.

Anyway, here is a teaser trailer to keep your appetite wet...
